82nd Entry Reunion 2019Hotel Port DinorwicThe 82nd Entry Entry, RAF Halton, assembled at The Hotel Port Dinorwic, Y Felinheli, Gwynedd, on 14th May 2019, for our 32nd consecutive reunion celebration.
Some arrived earlier and made a longer stay. The weather was just glorious as was the hotel location. Set on a headland, the views were magnificent, looking onto the Menai Strait between Anglesey and the Welsh coastline. The sea was blue, the attractive marina, village pub and cafe, the anchored yachts, and the setting sun – Idyllic! The hotel is managed by the Grandson of our member, Mick Stracey, who, along with wife Betty and John Donovan organised our great embracing package. Family connections have their benefits!!Our numbers were somewhat depleted this year, totalling 25 including ladies, due to various medical, personal and family circumstances. Maybe, also a long way to travel for some? However, we enjoyed a casual buffet supper on the evening of the 14th, accompanied by a magnificent sunset, followed by a three course, somewhat more formal gala dinner on the evening of the 15th. A toast was made to our Ladies who really do grace our occasions. The annual raffle raised £135 with a good selection of prizes. As one would expect, there were also a number of pleasant and nostalgic exchanges, over a few drinks, in the lounge or on the lawn with the sea view. The hotel staff were welcoming, most helpful and attentive of our needs. There is so much to see in the local area here. Some visited Anglesey, ascended Snowdon, Country Houses, and explored the village and coastline and much else. After a hearty breakfast, most said their fond farewells, ‘see you next year – all things being equal’, after breakfast on the Thursday and departed for the trek home. As to next year 2020, we are planning to meet at The Letchworth Hall Hotel (Mercure), in May, dates to be confirmed and organised by Maurice Conybear. The assembly prior to dinner 2019.
